Canon Pixima Pro-100 Photo Printer

The Canon PIXMA Pro-100 is a professional quality inkjet printer with large format capability. I use it to print art, photography, and create greetings cards. I have been using it for a year and a half, and I am very happy with it.

With this printer, you can print on paper up to 13″ x 17″ in size. The machine itself is stupendous, both in quality and weight. It weighs just over 43lbs and the dimensions are 27.2 x 15.2 x 8.5 inches. There is a warning that comes with the printer that you need two people to be able to carry it.

The price is reasonable, especially for the quality of the prints. The ink is about a third of the cost of the printer, but that isn’t uncommon for ink prices.

If you looking print art or photography at home, then this is a brilliant choice.

Getting The Best Results

To get the best print results, there are three important areas that need to be high quality: the image itself, the printer, and the paper. In this review, I will share examples of three different paper types that I like to use and how I use them. Each one vary in texture and sheen, so the type you use will depend on how you wish your print to turn out.

Paper Example 1: Hahnemuhle: Matte Fine Art – Photo Rag Ulta Smooth

Hahnemuhle paper is superb and they have won multiple awards for their quality. The Photo Rag Ulta Smooth is a matte paper with an incredibly fine texture. I have used this paper solely with artwork.
You can try out samples of their paper for $12.

Paper Example 2: Canon Luster Photo Paper

The Canon Luster paper has an interesting texture to it, it feels gently bumpy to the touch and resembles a finer version of a canvas texture. It’s a semi-gloss so you can get a slight shine on this paper. I printed an art piece of a landscape (as seen below) and it appears as though it is a painting on canvas. You can see close up examples of texture of luster paper here.

Paper Example 3: Canon Photo Paper Plus Glossy II

The Canon Photo Glossy II paper has an intense gloss finish which works great with photography prints. The texture is smooth and highly reflective.
